Divinations: THE PENDULUM

Your Pendulum

When it comes to the topic of your very own Pendulum, there is a lot to consider! Some practitioners choose to work with a single Pendulum and cultivate a very specific relationship with it. Others curate a collection of these beauties and appreciate them all for a myriad of reasons. Others even still may choose to have a Pendulum that is for personal use and another one that is reserved specifically for the public eye and professional use with Clients. The choice is entirely up to you and what feels right for your own path!!

On Aesthetics

Nowadays you can will find that Pendulums come in an endless array of sizes, materials & designs. With so many artists and artful techniques in the world, if you can dream up a Pendulum, it can most certainly exist. You may even want to create your own from scratch!!

Pendulums that are specifically designed as such, can be made from all sorts of materials like stone, bone, crystals & gems, wood, metal, cloth and so on! When choosing which material is best for your practice, you can either follow the lead of your intuition or perhaps consider how the energy of your mind and body, might translate through those different materials on a physical, vibrational level.

Pendulums that are solely made from metals might have a heavier feel to them and take a little longer to start swinging, but they may also offer a truer reflection of your own vibrations as they are more basic in their elemental makeup. Whereas a gemstone or crystal Pendulum will come with some form of vibrational influence of its own, as each one has a long-standing personality or traditional use in metaphysical applications.

Pendulums made from clay, wood or cloth may take awhile to begin moving as they lack the natural magnetic quality that energy can easily be translated through. Some Pendulums are even made for multi-function purposes, and might be worn as a necklace or other piece of jewelry. You may want your Pendulum to be small and delicate or you may prefer it be large, bold and heavy.

Each Pendulum will have its unique characteristic for you to consider to when choosing which ones to work with. Remember, there is nothing right or wrong about any of these choices, its simply all about what your personal practice calls you to!

When choosing your Pendulum, just trust in and listen to the insights of your own powerful intuition and you will end up with the perfect Pendulum.

Palm, Paper Or Pendulum Board?

When it comes to the matter of translation, there are a variety of ways you can assign the YES, NO & MAYBE positions to help you with interpretation during your session.

To keep it sweet and simple, you can always draw a circle on anything, followed by drawing a large X over the circle so that you cut the circle into 4 quadrants. Then draw one more line going in between one of the existing quadrants through the center point and all the way through the next quadrant sitting diagonally from where you started. Your circle should now have 6 sections or pie slices. Place YES on one axis of the X and NO on the other; place MAYBE on the third line you drew.

You can also use a Pendulum Mat. These can be made by hand or purchased from a myriad of metaphysical stores. (We Make Them By Request!) They range in the complexity of information they contain, from your standard YES, NO, MAYBE to including the 7 Chakras, The Alphabet, Elements, Seasons, Etc. They can be plain in design or on the super-duper fancy pants side!

Language, Tone & Bonding

Something to consider when working with your Pendulum, is what kind of bond and relationship you want to cultivate with this tool of divination. Is it personal?: Revealing thoughts, intimate questions & embarrassing situations; are you vulnerable with your Pendulum? Or is it strictly business?: Client calls, public sessions, group work & demonstrations. It can be both, or it could be separate. It might also be some unique combination of the two or something different entirely! The point is to trust & allow your Pendulum Practice to unfold organically, so that it may best serve your Personal Path.

Another facet of the type of bond you will create will your Pendulum, can be found in the type of Language & Tone of Voice you use while divining with it. Some practitioners like to employ a commanding & authoritative tone when in session. They tend to be short & to-the-point when asking questions or directing it's energy. Others like to use a more formal or gentle tone with their Pendulum. They may use words like please & thank you or offer words of encouragement while waiting for the movements of the Pendulum to become clear.

Again, there is no right or wrong; this work is largely subconscious & intuitive so trusting yourself and what you feel is best to do, is highly encouraged.

Cleansing The Vibe

Because there is such a high level of focus, concentration & energy raised during a session of Divination, it is best to take care and cleanse your Pendulum every once in awhile, so as to ensure it stays light as a feather, metaphysically speaking! Whereas everything is energy, and a Pendulum is basically trained to be receptive, it is consequently susceptible to picking up and storing vibrations from just about anything in its vicinity, but most especially the thoughts, feelings & experiences from your sessions working with it. For this reason, intentionally cleansing it could heighten your awareness of its inherent energy & while also helping the two of you to work better together moving forward.

You can employ many different methods of cleansing for this purpose; the following listed approaches are just a small sample of what is possible. ***Please keep in mind that not all cleansing & clearing methods are appropriate or even safe for all Pendulums.*** It's incredibly important to consider what type of material & build your Pendulum is made from to prevent any damage from occurring.

For Example: Selenite is a water-soluble crystal, so if you were to wash it with Moon Water Or Anoint it with an Oil, it could dissolve or become damaged.

Please Be Thoughtful With This In Regards To Your Own Pendulum.

Methods For Cleansing Your Pendulum Metaphysically

  • Use An Herbal Smoke Or Incense To Bathe All Around Your Pendulum Until It Feels Restored
  • Place Your Pendulum In Direct Sunlight For An Intentional Amount Of Time
  • Place Your Pendulum In Direct Moonlight For An Intentional Amount Of Time
  • Rub Ashes, Black Salt Or Dried Herbs Over Your Pendulum With The Intention Of Clearing It
  • Use Sea Water, Moon Water, Herbal Essences Or Other Sacred Water To Wash, Rinse Or Mist
  • Anoint Your Pendulum With A Purification Oil During A Cleanse & Clear Ritual
  • Place In A Watertight Container & Bury In The Earth For A Full Moon Cycle Or Other Intentional Amount Of Time

Storing Your Pendulum

As long as you take into consideration what long-term conditions will best serve the design & materials of your specific Pendulum or Pendulums, almost any method of storage works well. If you have many, it might be a good long-term practice to organize them in a way that prevents them from knocking into one another, especially if they are made from crystals or gemstones.

Some people like to have their Pendulums in view and hang them up, while others like to wrap them in a cloth, bag or keep them in a jewelry box repurposed for magickal items. They can live on your altars, in your offices, on a windowsill, or maybe even on a keychain! You can treat them as sacredly or mundanely as you prefer; your Spiritual Practice your Choice.

Because of their traditional durability & small size, they're usually pretty easy to keep and simple to take with you on the go. Truly, Pendulums are generally ready, willing and able to serve your unfolding Divination needs.
